In a separate event reported on the same night, another bridge collapsed in Russia's Kursk region as a freight train was passing over it. This incident resulted in injuries to one of the train's drivers. Local officials confirmed the collapse and the injury.

These incidents occurred against a backdrop of ongoing hostilities, with reports noting that since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion more than three years ago, there have been continued cross-border shelling, drone strikes, and covert raids by Ukrainian forces into these border regions, including Belgorod.
