More than 60 firefighters have been dealing with a fire at a factory in Aston, with police and ambulance crews at the scene and roads closed for public safety.

West Midlands Fire Service was called to the building in Tame Road, Witton, just after 01:00 BST, where four commercial units were on fire, but firefighters said there were no casualties and no people involved.

Some residents in the area may have experienced a loss of power during the night and National Grid representatives were at the scene and working to restore supplies.

Crews at the blaze were later scaled down, the fire service said, and firefighters were damping down and looking for remaining hot spots.

Firefighters initially said the blaze was in a single-storey building and about 80% of the factory had been affected.

Residents nearby were advised to keep their windows and doors closed because of the smoke billowing out from the blaze.

A fire service spokesman said investigation teams had been at the scene but had not yet confirmed the cause of the fire.

"They will return to continue investigations when the fire is fully extinguished," he said.

Ten fire engines were sent to the scene, along with three 4x4 response vehicles, two aerial ladder platforms, a high-volume pumping unit and several specialist crews – including drone and command support teams.

That was later scaled down to three fire engines and two hydraulic aerial platforms, the spokesman said.

Representatives from Cadent gas were also called to the scene.
