Reuben Waithaka disappeared on Sunday, May 15, while attending his grandson’s graduation in the US.
Despite the family reporting the incident to the police, creating posters, making online appeals, and obtaining CCTV footage of his last known sighting, Waithaka remains missing.
Elaine Westry Njoki, Waithaka’s granddaughter, took to TikTok to share some updates about her missing grandfather.
“My grandfather Reuben Waithaka has been missing since Wednesday, May 15. He was visiting from Kenya for my cousin’s high school graduation. It has been very difficult for my family and me, but we won’t give up. Please keep us in your prayers and share the word. Thank you for all the love and support,” her caption read.
The heartbroken young woman clarified details regarding the venue where her grandfather was last seen, as there had been some confusion.
She confirmed that her grandfather was last seen in Calera, Alabama, and not Seattle, as many had thought based on earlier reports.
“Seattle is where I live, so I just wanted to make that detail clear,” she said in her viral TikTok video, which garnered hundreds of comments.
She also opened up about the state of the family following the disappearance of the 73-year-old.
“It hasn’t been easy. I appreciate all the support and love we’ve received from friends, family, and even people we don’t know who have been praying for us. We truly appreciate it. We don’t take it for granted. It’s a blessing to have a village behind you in situations like this. Just continue praying for us. On behalf of my family, I say thank you to everyone who has stood with us through it all,” she added.
