Diana Makhokha, who works as a presenter at SulweFM, was coming from her morning breakfast show on Sunday, June 29, when a motorbike approached her.
She hardly paid attention to it as she was busy ordering an Uber to take her home after completing her shift.
"Sunday, June 29th, 2025. Along Maalim Juma road, off Dennis Pritt. I've just finished my breakfast shift on Sulwe FM. It's 11:30-ish. I step out of the gate. Our driver walks past me and I ask if he has an assignment in town, tuende pamoja, he says no, he doesn't. I decide; aah..let me order an Uber," her statement read.
Makokha stated that she didn't realise that the men on the motorbike were on her radar and before she could realise it, her phone was snatched.
"Kumbe, they were minding my business. I was theor business. In less than 30 seconds, as I'm still standing here waiting for the 'available Uber driver', my phone is snatched in a millisecond," she added.
The renowned journalist stated that she got confused the moment she lost her phone, as she did not expect that to happen to her.
"I honestly didn't hear any motorbike sound, didn't hear anything! At all. (Could be an electric bike). Just like that. My Samsung left me. Right outside the gate. Yani hawaogopi risasi hawa. I'm standing just a few steps away from the RMS gate. Like 3 steps away," she said.
She then reported the matter at Kilimani Police Station, where she was told that five similar incidents had happened in the area over the weekend.
She further shared CCTV footage that captured how the events unfolded on the fateful day she lost her mobile phone.
Makhoha further called on Kenyans to help her track down the men who snatched her handset.
"Be careful. Please. Help circulate. I know they're riding around snatching people's phones," she said.
