Researchers from the University of Ibadan (UI), University of Port Harcourt, and Bayero University Kano (BUK) have called on governments to adopt preventive education strategies to fight diseases and pandemics.

The researchers stated this during the dissemination of their research findings under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) National Research Project.

The presentation was held at the Faculty of Education, UI, Ibadan, Oyo State, with the theme: “Preventive Education Strategies as Vaccine to COVID-19 Prevalence and Related Diseases”.

Principal Investigator, Prof. Rashid Aderinoye, Co-Investigator of the project, Prof. Omobola Adelore and Dr Solomon Ojedeji presented the reports and findings, which recommended that public health campaigns should focus on reinforcing the preventive strategies.

“Communication strategies should leverage the preferred media channels identified by respondents, including radio, television, newspapers, and social media platforms, while sensitisation programmes within schools should be strengthened to enhance awareness and promote a culture of preventive health practices among students.

Aderinoye, in a presentation, urged the government to use the appropriate channels of communication to disseminate health and education information to the populace to achieve the desired objectives.

On his part, Dr Ladan Babangida from BUK said preventive education would be a better remedy. Also, Mr Tunde Ogundipe of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) urged Nigerians to shun misinformation.
