Report: Phoenix Suns trading Kevin Durant to Houston Rockets in NBA blockbuster

Published 8 hours ago3 minute read

The Phoenix Suns are trading former MVP Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft and five second-round picks, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. The Rockets will be the fifth NBA organization that Durant has played for.

Durant is one of the most-accomplished NBA players of all time. He started in all 62 of his appearances for the Phoenix Suns last season. The two-time NBA Finals MVP averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 52.7% from the field and 43.0% from beyond the arc.

Despite Durant’s individual excellent, the Suns posted a subpar 36-46 overall record this season and missed out on the NBA Playoffs. At 36 years old, Durant is likely entering the final years of his career and made it clear that he wanted to play for a contender.

Now, he’ll have that chance. The Rockets were the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference this season, but ultimately suffered a first-round upset in the NBA Playoffs against the Golden State Warriors. With Durant by their side, the Rockets will look to reach new heights next season.

After all, Durant has championship experience. The 6-foot-11 sharpshooter was spectacular in the Golden State Warriors’ runs to the 2017 and 2018 NBA championships. While Durant hasn’t won another NBA chip since 2018, he reminded fans last summer that he’s still more than capable of winning gold.

Durant was an integral part of Team USA’s run to the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He now has four gold medals and is the leading scorer in Team USA’s Olympic basketball history. Durant is the only player in basketball history with MVPs in the NBA, Olympics and World Cup.

On top of being the 2014 MVP and a two-time Finals MVP, Durant is a 15-time NBA All-Star, six-time All-NBA First-Team member and four-time NBA scoring champion. In fact, Durant is currently ranked eighth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Funnily enough, Durant appeared to find out about the trade news at the same time as fans across the world. Durant was on stage at Fanatics Fest in New York City when the news broke. The NBA legend couldn’t help but smile.

“We’re gonna see,” he said with a smirk. “We’re gonna see what happens, man.”

If Rockets fans are lucky, Kevin Durant will lead Houston’s young core to the top of the basketball world. The Rockets haven’t won the NBA Finals since 1995.
