Former Manchester United coach Benni McCarthy has sent a message to Marcus Rashford who joined Aston Villa on loan for the rest of the season.

The England star left his boyhood club after he was exiled by new coach Ruben Amorim.

The 27-year-old last played for Man United in mid-December and was linked with several clubs including Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund.

On Sunday, Aston Villa announced they had signed Rashford on loan from Man United, an expected development after he was dropped by Amorim.

Unai Emery's side will cover at least 75% of Rashford's £325,000-a-week wages that could reach 90%. The deal also included an option to buy the winger in the summer, per MEN.

Amorim dropped Rashford for the first time for the Manchester derby on December 15. He last played on December 12, against Viktoria Plzen and has missed the last 13 matches.

After he was left out for the first time, Rashford told journalist Henry Winter he wants to leave.

"I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps.” he said. “When I leave it's going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person."

Rashford is expected to play a crucial part in Emery's team who are into the round of 16 of the Champions League. They are also eighth in the Premier League.

McCarthy commented on Rashford's Instagram.

"All the best Young King 👑 👏🏽"

His current and former Man United teammates including Jadon Sancho, Luke Shaw, Erik Bailly, Scott McTominay, Phil Jones, Joshua Zirkzee, and Alejandro Garnacho wished him well.

@ashagg12oct:

"Go on Marcus. Smash it at Villa. You were the first academy player I fell in love with when I started supporting United. You have carried this club through rocky times and now it's time for you to soar high. Farewells Starboy❤️"

@billionair_code:

"He doesn’t look happy. Sorry Rashford but you just had to leave Man U. I hope everything works out fine for you here at Aston Villa."

@United_Hour:

"Will be sad to see Rashford in another shirt, hope he finds his lost mojo."

@DFG_UTD:

"Marcus deserved better than this. I’m fuming at this club. Everything about us is just disgusting atm. Wish him all the best❤️"

earlier reported that former Kenya international Titus Mulama commented on McCarthy possibly taking charge as Harambee Stars coach.

Mulama is confident the South African legend will bring experience and professionalism if he is appointed.
