In a heartfelt tribute, Raila expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of a man he described as a trusted confidant, a dedicated professional, and an integral part of his family’s legacy.
"It is with profound shock and sadness that I announce the passing of my personal aide and bodyguard George Oduor this evening in Nairobi after a short illness," Raila wrote in a Facebook post.
According to the former prime minister, Oduor’s connection to the Odinga family dates back to the late 1980s, having served under Raila’s father, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, before continuing his loyal service under Raila himself.
Through decades of political turbulence and personal milestones, Oduor stood beside Raila in moments of triumph and adversity alike.
"He has been a vigilant, calm, confident, and extremely professional aide, dedicated to duty and a dependable rock on my side all these years through tumultuous periods," Raila eulogised.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader noted that Oduor’s passing is not only a personal loss but also a painful moment for many who knew and worked with him.
He acknowledged the deep grief felt by Oduor’s family, friends, and colleagues, recognising the irreplaceable role he played in their lives.
"I will miss George, and I am sorry to the myriad friends who miss him already. To his wife, Carol George, his entire family, colleagues, and friends, I offer Mama Ida's and the entire Jaramogi family's sincere condolences at this devastating loss. May the Almighty rest his soul in eternal peace," Raila wrote.
The ODM party paid tribute to Oduor, recognising him as a dedicated, respectful, and professional security officer who served the party leader with unmatched commitment.
Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura remembered Oduor as a loyal, focused, and fatherly figure who dutifully protected the former prime minister.
He bid him farewell, praising his dedication and commitment.

Siaya governor James Orengo described Oduor as both a comrade and a key ally in the struggle for the third liberation.
Reflecting on their decades-long association, Orengo recalled his humility and professionalism, referring to him as the "true gentleman of VIP protection."
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino eulogised Oduor as a dedicated, loyal, dedicated person and a true son of the soil.
George's death follows a similar tragic incident involving Barrack Oduor, a bodyguard assigned to Ida Odinga, who was shot dead in Kisumu on Friday, October 14, 2022.
According to a police report, Oduor had just left a local bar and restaurant with his friend when a scuffle broke out, during which Oduor was disarmed and fatally shot twice in the head and leg.
Authorities later recovered a spent cartridge and a 9mm bullet head at the scene, and Oduor’s body was taken to Star Hospital Mortuary. Ida Odinga’s head of security, David Masaga, later confirmed the incident.
