January 2025
The best sleep I had in 2024 happened in the last week of the year at Quincy House Singapore, a new serviced residence in Holland Village. I thought it was just me — and I am not saying this just because we were invited to stay — my teenager said the same thing. So I know that this was #truth because he (i) volunteered his opinion without my having to ask him; and (ii) used actual words instead of grunts, the customary language of teenage boys. It’s rare to find something that unites us in accord these days, so what was it about Quincy House that did that?

Opened in October last year, Quincy House Singapore is Far East Hospitality’s first serviced residence under the Quincy brand. The group also has two hotels: one in Singapore, and one in Melbourne, Australia. There is a growing trend of travellers who have extended stays in Singapore, reflected in the 12% year-on-year increase in bookings for stays of more than six days between August 2022 and July 2024. With this in mind, Quincy House Singapore offers 255 rooms in a variety of accommodation types that cater to varying visitor profiles. These range from standard deluxe rooms to spacious two-bedroom apartments that can serve as a temporary home away from home for relocating expat families, locals whose houses are undergoing renovation, and families looking for an extended — the minimum stay period is six nights — staycation. Pet-friendly options are available so fur-kids are welcome too!

The cherry on top is Quincy House Singapore’s location, right in the heart of buzzy Holland Village. Housed within the One Holland compound, it connects to shops and eateries via a covered walkway, as well as Holland Village MRT station (via Lorong Liput, partially sheltered).

If you are driving in there is an underground car park with ample lots. At the driveway the friendly staff greets us and directs us to the reception lobby at level two. Upon arrival guests are offered juice shots in flavours of Honey Yuzu, Açai, and Watermelon Lime. These pair with the Style, Chill and Wow personality vibes in a handy Quincy Qurate Neighbourhood Guide that features restaurants and shops with exclusive discounts for Quincy guests.

The second level also houses The Living Room, a cosy and welcoming space to unwind, and a coworking desk. There is also a 24-hour Munchies Bar where guests can avail themselves of coffee, tea, and snacks like pretzels, nuts, rice crackers, and dried fruit anytime of the day or night.

On weekday mornings, a Grab-and-Go breakfast is served, with options like yoghurt, Japanese style sandos, corn cups, and juice.

In the room there is a complimentary See You at Quincy kit which is given to all guests. This includes a pair of foldable Quincy shades, a mesh bag, and a collapsible water bottle which comes in handy when I book a last-minute PIlates session in the area using ClassPass. For those who wish to explore further, there is a Adventure Day Kit, featuring a guide and a Polaroid Camera, available for $200.

It’s understandable if you prefer to stay in though. With warm woods, muted hues and dark marble that reflect a sense of quiet luxury, our room at Quincy House Singapore is a blissful sanctuary in which the teen and I are happy to lounge all day.
At 721 square metres the two-bedroom deluxe apartment sleeps four and is a good size for small families. Both bedrooms have ensuites (one is a jack-and-jill style that opens to the living area), double beds, wardrobes, flat-screen TVs, and desks. There is enough space in one of the rooms to fit a small cot or a playpen, if necessary.

Furnishings are elegant and functional but the devil is in the details. Think flip-out pegs and leather pockets on the wallboard, architectural task lamps for the bedroom work tables, flat switches on the walls, and under-bed storage. Sustainability is a core focus, with green features such as filtered water from a tap, and water-efficient fittings.

Bathrooms are shower-style, with bidet toilets. Toiletries from Australian brand Kevin Murphy are provided, as well as amenities such as toothbrushes and shower caps. Should you wish to whip up a meal or two, there’s an induction cooker, a microwave oven, a rice cooker, a toaster, and all the necessary kitchen tools. Need to get laundry done? There’s a washing machine in the room.

To be honest, with Holland Village and its plethora of food options at our doorstep, the kitchen gets little use. If we were staying long-term though, or for families with babies and young children, this would be useful to prepare meals, especially for the little ones.

On our first night we walk to One Holland Village for ramen at Ippudo, ice cream at The Daily Scoop, and snacks at CS Fresh. On our second day we have nasi lemak at Holland Village Market & Food Centre, hor fun at a little noodle shop that my family has been going to for decades, and dapao from Crystal Jade — all within minutes of Quincy House.

I point out my old school day hangouts to the kid, and mourn a little at the loss of Thambi Magazines Stall and the old school toy shop that would be bedecked with cellophane lanterns during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
And should all the eating inspire a sudden need to shred, Quincy House has a 20 metre long rooftop swimming pool, as well as a fitness room where you can work out with a view of the stunning glass installation, ‘Singapore Sun’, by renowned American artist Dale Chihuly.
