President John Dramani Mahama has shared a new update on the health condition of the Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, as she received treatment abroad for a health scare.

Speaking at the Ghanata Old School Park in Doodowa during his 'Thank You' tour on Friday, May 16, 2025, the president said he spoke with the vice president and was informed that she had fully recovered from her health scare.

President John Mahama stated that Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang is expected to return to Ghana and resume her duties by the end of next week.

He said:

"I start by bringing you greetings from Her Excellency, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and I am happy to state that I spoke to her yesterday morning, and she will be back in the country before the end of next week. By God's grace, she has fully recovered, and she is going to come and go back to her duties."

The president's new update comes a few days after he shared positive news about the Vice President when he wished her and other Ghanaian women a Happy Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 11, 2025.

In a Facebook post, President John Mahama said he visited Prof Opoku-Agyemang in London, where she is resting after recovering from illness.

The President then indicated that Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang will soon resume her duties as the Vice President of the nation.

A statement from the presidency confirmed that she was admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

The statement explained that she became unwell after work on Friday, March 28, and required immediate medical attention. Doctors later recommended that she seek further treatment abroad.

Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang later released a statement on Facebook, where she expressed gratitude for the well wishes she received from Ghanaians after her hospitalisation.

The vice president was later flown to the United Kingdom, where she was reported to be stable and responding to treatment.

The president teased Sammy Gyamfi as he joked that he rewarded the dancer with the local currency and not dollars.
