President celebrates renowned educationist Awosika at 85, Kole Shettima at 65

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated a foremost educationist, Dr. Winifred Awosika, on her 85th birthday.
The President also felicitated renowned political scientist and development expert, Dr. Kole Shettima, on his 65th birthday.
He described Dr. Awosika as a visionary educationist and entrepreneur whose impact on Nigeria’s educational landscape remains profound.
In a heartfelt tribute through a statement yesterday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu lauded Dr. Awosika’s five-decade dedication to shaping young minds through her pioneering role as the Founder and Chairman of Chrisland Schools Limited, as well as Chancellor of Chrisland University.
“Dr. Awosika’s life has been dedicated to pursuing knowledge, excellence, and nation-building. Through her vision, discipline, and commitment to quality education, she has nurtured generations of leaders and professionals who continue to make meaningful contributions to our country,” the President said.
Beyond her contributions to education, President Tinubu acknowledged Dr. Awosika’s role as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and model of moral integrity.
Her lifelong commitment to empowering future generations, he noted, has left an enduring legacy in Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
“As you celebrate this remarkable milestone, I sincerely thank you for your invaluable service to the nation. May your years ahead be filled with continued health, joy, and fulfillment,” the President added.
Dr. Awosika’s contributions to education and human capital development have earned her widespread recognition, making her a symbol of excellence and dedication in Nigeria’s academic and business spheres.
In another statement yesterday in Abuja by Onanuga, President Tinubu described Dr. Shettima, who is the Director of the MacArthur Foundation for Africa, as a distinguished scholar and activist whose work has significantly shaped Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
The President applauded Dr. Shettima’s dedication to advancing peace and justice, acknowledging his role in mentoring a new generation of non-state actors and supporting both governmental and non-governmental organisations in tackling developmental challenges.
“The contributions of Dr. Kole Shettima to nation-building, democracy, and the promotion of human rights are invaluable. His leadership at the MacArthur Foundation has strengthened Nigeria’s civil society and helped address key governance issues,” he said.
Also yesterday, President Tinubu congratulated Ambassador Bankole Adeoye on his re-election as the African Union (AU) Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security.
He described the re-election as a “well-deserved” victory.
The President congratulated Adeoye via his verified X handle, @officialABAT.
“His leadership and dedication to conflict resolution, governance, and regional stability have been instrumental in advancing Africa’s security architecture,” President Tinubu wrote.
