Police Raid Nabs 48 Suspects in Kajjansi Crime Crackdown
In a significant overnight operation, Kajjansi Police Division, part of Kampala Metropolitan Police South, arrested 48 individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities across various black spots within the area. The intelligence-led crackdown, which commenced around 3:30 AM this morning, targeted known gathering points for criminals in Lweza.
The operation was prompted by actionable intelligence concerning individuals habitually gathering, gambling, and loitering in crime-prone areas. Police teams conducted routine patrols, leading to the arrests.
Of the 48 suspects apprehended, 18 were taken into custody in Muchanga, 20 in Kajjansi, and 10 at Sanyu Brothel, a location identified as a crime hotspot.
Preliminary investigations have revealed concerning trends, particularly in areas like Muchanga. Here, a number of young individuals reportedly pose as bottle and dustbin collectors during the day but are suspected of attacking homes and robbing residents during late hours.
Authorities also recovered several housebreaking implements during the arrests, including two pliers, three testas, and three knives, all of which have been secured as evidence. Statements from complainants and arresting officers have been recorded as part of the ongoing investigation.
The majority of those arrested are young, aged between 17 and 23 years. All 48 suspects are currently detained at Bwebajja and Lubowa Police Stations, awaiting further investigations and subsequent arraignment in court.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, affirmed the police’s commitment to community safety. “The Police remain committed to protecting communities by disrupting criminal networks and ensuring those involved are brought to justice,” he stated. He also urged the public to continue providing timely information to assist police efforts.
