Police intensify patrols on Kasoa-Winneba highway following robbery incidents

Published 4 days ago1 minute read

The Central East Regional Police Command has announced new security measures to curb rising incidents of highway robbery along the Kasoa-Winneba Highway.

This comes in the wake of a robbery on the Gomoa Potsin-Okyereko stretch on Sunday night, June 1, which led to the arrest of four suspects. Additional suspects have since been apprehended, and weapons were retrieved during the operation.

Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, June 3, a source at the regional command indicated that the police are intensifying efforts to boost security visibility in the area. Key among the measures are increased bike patrols and the mounting of multiple checkpoints along the highway beginning Tuesday.

In addition, police assured of their commitment to engage the contractor working on the road to improve the surface and remove certain speed ramps.

According to authorities, these ramps slow down vehicles and create vulnerabilities that robbers exploit, while also hindering rapid police response to emergencies.

The new security strategies come amid growing fear among residents, following three reported robbery incidents in the Gomoa Potsin enclave over the past month.

Police expressed their commitment to restoring public confidence and ensuring the safety of commuters on the highway.
