The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the brutal attack on Christian Benjamin Ediegene, Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) of Okana, in Abua/Odual Local Council of the state.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, said the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Ayama Police Division in Abua Central and have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for further investigation.

The attack occurred on June 29, 2025. Narrating his ordeal, Ediegene said, “At about 7:00 a.m., I was going to my farm, a group of boys ambushed me and dealt machete cuts on my head, shoulder, and hand.”

He said residents of the community rushed to his aid and took him to the police station in Abua Central. “For now, I am demanding justice. I heard that the police have arrested some of them. I was unconscious but now, I am recovering. At least I can talk a little,” he added.

The CDC chairman, who is still recovering from the injuries, said he remains in shock and is yet to understand the motive behind the attack.
