Published 1 month ago2 minute read

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Plentiful sunshine and blustery winds are expected in Southwest and Central Virginia for the next few days.

For Tuesday, Wind Advisories will be in effect through the afternoon for counties along and west of the Blue Ridge. West winds of 15 – 30 mph are anticipated with gusts as high as 40 – 50 mph possible. These winds could down tree limbs resulting in a few power outages. Make sure to secure any loose lightweight outdoor objects.

Overall, Tuesday will be mostly sunny and windy. Morning lows will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Afternoon highs will top out in the slightly warmer 40s and 50s.

Winds will subside for Tuesday night, but gusty conditions will return on Wednesday. Due to warm southwesterly flow, temperatures will rise into the 50s and lower 60s under mostly sunny skies.

Wind speeds will decrease on Thursday as high pressure passes overhead. Highs will be in the slightly cooler 40s and lower 50s. Clouds will increase late in the day as a storm system approaches from the west.

A warm front will bring periods of rain to Southwest and Central Virginia on Friday. This will mainly be a rain event since temperatures will likely be well above freezing. A wintry mix may develop along the western slopes of Pocahontas and Greenbrier counties.

A few showers may linger into Saturday morning. Otherwise, decreasing cloudiness is slated for the day. Winds will come in from the northwest, resulting in slightly cooler conditions for the weekend. Highs will be in the near-average 40s and lower 50s.
