Pillion rider succumbs to injuries after bike accident

UDUPI: A pillion rider died on Friday, a day after he was involved in a bike accident near the Hollow Block Factory in Angadibettu, Hirebettu village of Udupi taluk. The deceased has been identified as Bommu Janu Bodekar.According to police, the accident occurred on Thursday evening when a motorcycle heading from Manipal towards Hirebettu skidded and fell in the middle of the road allegedly due to overspeeding and negligent riding. One of the riders fell onto the tar road, while the other was found on the mud track in front of the motorcycle. The pillion rider suffered a severe head injury and was bleeding, while the rider sustained minor injuries.Both were initially admitted to a hospital in Manipal and later shifted to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi for advanced treatment. However, the pillion rider succumbed to his injuries on Friday. Manipal Police have registered a case under Sections 281 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
