Nocum foul on BGR should've been flagrant 2, rues Jolas

TNT team manager Jojo Lastimosa lamented the hard foul by Adrian Nocum against Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser that was not considered flagrant foul penalty 2 by officials in Game 2 of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals last Friday.

Lastimosa rued that the foul can be compared to that of Cliff Hodge against Zavier Lucero during their eliminations game. Then, Hodge brought down Lucero and the Meralco big man was ultimately slapped with a one-game suspension.

Lastimosa noted the foul against Ganuelas-Rosser is just one of the incidents that have made their semifinal series against Rain or Shine too physical.

“Even if Brandon didn’t say anything to the PBA about that open hack by Nocum, I am saying now that it was as dangerous as Hodge’s takedown,” said Lastimosa on the morning of Game 3 of the Tropang 5G's contest against the Elasto Painters on Sunday.

“Brandon was unprotected and Nocum made a non-basketball play of winding up and hacked Brandon on the shoulder that brought him crashing. That was a clear, excessive, non-basketball play.

“This has got to end because our series has become very physical.”

Lastimosa also recalled Ganuelas-Rosser’s hit above the shoulder against Barangay Ginebra's Troy Rosario in the elims that also resulted into an ejection.

As he put it, “Brandon was penalized for an incidental hit on Troy’s face recently. Incidental and F2 because it was above the shoulder.”

Lastimosa believes that the league should review its rules on flagrant fouls, which state that penalty one is “unnecessary contact that involves a clear attack on the man, and not the ball, that is hard and hurtful but does not result in dire consequences (an injury) and which is not a legitimate move,” while penalty two is “contact that is unnecessary and excessive and results in dire consequences (an injury) and which is not a legitimate basketball move.”

“There has to be a review on what constitutes an F2,” said the TNT team manager.
