Photos of the Week: Protests turn ugly as cabinet convenes for retreat

This week began with a bee hive of activities ranging from political, social and international events.
The week saw Nairobi residents come out to protest against the death of social media influencer Albert of Albert Ojwang.
The Protests turned chaotic after goons invaded the protests while police used tear gas to disperse demonstrators.
As this happened, President William Ruto led the top leadership convened for the third National Executive Retreat at the KCB Leadership Centre in Kajiado County.
Radio Africa Group staff were treated to Father's Day with a scrumptious meal and drinks.

Violent protests

Protests erupted in Nairobi on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 following the death of social media influencer Albert Ojwang.
Ojwang died in police custody at Central Police Station under unclear circumstances.
The protests were marred with chaos after goons invaded, robbing residents and protesters in broad daylight.

During the protests, Boniface Kariuki, a city hawker, was shot while selling face masks during demonstrations in the Nairobi city centre.
The National Police Service (NPS) on Wednesday confirmed the interdiction of two officers linked to the shooting of Kariuki.
NPS identified the officers as Police Constable Klinzy Barasa Masinde and Police Constable Duncan Kiprono.
Both officers have been interdicted and are being processed by the Homicide Team at the DCI Headquarters as investigations continue.



Executive retreat

The executive and top leadership of the government on Friday convened for the third National Executive Retreat at the KCB Leadership Centre in Kajiado county.
The three-day retreat marked the third such event since President William Ruto assumed office in 2022
The National Executive retreat provided an opportunity to take stock of progress, evaluate impact, and make informed decisions about the government’s direction.
Among leaders present were Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga among others.

Iran, Israel war

Israel and Iran have been locked in direct, large-scale conflict.
Israel targets Iran’s nuclear, military, and energy infrastructure using airstrikes and cyber-drones, while Iran retaliates with missiles and drones on Israeli territory.
Civilians on both sides are suffering, and tens of thousands of Iranians are fleeing their homes.
The government issued a safety and security advisory to Kenyans living in Iran and Israel.
The State Department for Diaspora Affairs, PS Roseline Njogu, said the safety and well-being of Kenyans abroad remains the utmost priority.

RAG honours fathers’

Radio Africa Group staff were on Friday treated to Father's Day with a scrumptious meal and drinks.
The celebration, led by Radio Africa Group CEO Martin Khafafa, honored staff fathers for their dedication in providing for their families.
Father's Day is a special occasion to honour and celebrate fathers and father figures for their love, guidance, and sacrifices.
In marking the day, families often show appreciation through gifts, heartfelt messages, or spending quality time together.
