Peter Obi donates N10m to Anambra school after UK-Nigeria debate victory
Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated N10 million to St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, Anambra State. The gesture came in honour of the school’s recent win at the first UK-Nigeria Debate Championship.
Mr Obi visited the school on Thursday to personally congratulate the students and staff on their outstanding achievement. He praised them for bringing pride not just to Anambra, but to the entire country.
“In recognition of their brilliance and to support their continued growth, I presented the school with a N10 million donation towards infrastructural development,” Obi said in a post shared Friday on his official X account.
He stressed the importance of creating a strong learning environment, saying it is key to helping Nigerian children compete on the global stage.
Obi encouraged the students to view their victory as a win for all young Nigerians. He urged them to keep working hard and reminded them that the future of the country rests in their hands.
To the teachers and management, he expressed admiration for their commitment and impact. “Their success affirms that even schools in rural areas, when properly supported, can attain global standards,” he said.
Obi also commended the school’s proprietor, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma (Fr. Ebube Muonso), for his visionary leadership and dedication to both academic excellence and moral values.
“The team at St. John Vianney exemplifies what Nigerian youths can achieve when given the right foundation,” Obi said. “I am deeply inspired by their discipline, eloquence, and intellect. May their success continue to inspire many more across the country.”
