Pedestrian critically hurt after being hit by car on I-290
A pedestrian was taken to the hospital after being hit by a vehicle Thursday morning on the Eisenhower Expressway.
Illinois State Police said around 1:47 a.m., troopers had responded to westbound I-290 and Kostner Avenue for a report of a three-car crash involving a pedestrian.
Preliminary reports indicated the person was walking in the lanes of traffic for unknown reasons when they were hit by a car. The vehicle then spun out and hit another car.
The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The vehicles involved were towed from the scene.
Around 2:37 a.m., all outbound lanes between Independence Boulevard and Cicero Avenue were closed. Traffic was diverted off Independence Boulevard. Shortly after 6:30 a.m., all lanes reopened.
The crash remains under investigation.
No further information was immediately available.
