Paulo Bernardo has 2 Portugal milestones in mind as Celtic star reveals 'I wasn't aware' over historic moment - Football Scotland
Paulo Bernardo has his eyes firmly set on full honours with Portugal after making history.
The Celtic midfielder is now the joint most-capped ever player for the Under-21 side for his national team after helping his troops batter Poland 5-0 at the Euros.
He was on the scoresheet in the thumping win to make it one win and one draw so far in Group C.
The 23-year-old is set to smash the record if he faces Georgia in what would be his 31st cap at that level.
But Bernardo has a target in mind of joining Cristiano Ronaldo and Co in the senior set up.
Roberto Martinez and his troops are fresh off the back of Nations League glory and Brendan Rodgers' midfielder has made one thing clear about his immediate focus before looking towards the bigger picture.
He said: "My ambition now is to win this tournament and then play for the full Portugal team.
"I wasn't aware of being the most capped player for the Under 21s until during the Finals when someone told me.
"At my first European Under 21s Championships, I was the youngest in the squad and at these Finals, I am the oldest.
"It's been great to play for the Under 21s. It's always a source of pride to represent my national team, it means I'm doing my job well.
"I was given the captain's armband in our first game against France and that was a very proud moment for me too.
"But the important thing is we go as far as we can in Slovakia."
