Have you tried removing the PacBell account in Mail and then add it back?

Are you able to read PacBell with a browser on line?

What model and year is your Mac?

What system are you running?

How much free space do yo have on the boot drive?

How much memory do yo have?

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac?

I am not certain this all applies to you, but:

In the northeast, @verizon.net Mail is hosted by AOL, and You MUST use the custom AOL setup button to create a new Verizon mail account on a Mac. Using 'Other' gets you nowhere.

Also, you MUST specify account everywhere an email account reference is used during the setup, or it fails.

This is because they require you to continue into a browser-like setup and establish a Mail token for future logins suing OAuth validation.

Does PacBell host its own email, or is the situation similar to Verizon?
