“Our goal was to make men feel majestic in their everyday clothes,” says Lagos-based designer Emmanuel Obafemi, founder of Penuel’s Threads. As a rising voice in heritage-inspired menswear, Obafemi emphasizes the importance of identity, craftsmanship, and cultural storytelling through fashion.

During the launch of his new workshop, Obafemi shared his vision: “Penuel’s Threads is more than just a brand; it’s a journey of resilience and purpose. Every piece we create is woven with stories that uplift and inspire men to walk confidently in their heritage.”Since establishing the brand in 2019, the 29year-old designer has rapidly gained recognition, showcasing at prominent events like Africa Fashion Week Nigeria and GTCO Fashion Week.

Obafemi’s collections, including the latest “The Atelier’s Design,” embody relaxed elegance suitable for diverse occasions from formal gatherings to religious events. Each Agbada and kaftan is meticulously handcrafted, featuring traditional Aso-Oke embroidery, blending Yoruba craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics.

Looking ahead, Mr. Obafemi envisions expanding his influence globally. “We’re launching a made-in-Lagos export capsule targeting diaspora boutiques in London, Canada, and Dubai,” he notes. Additionally, Penuel’s Threads is pioneering a digital custom-fit app, enabling clients worldwide to access bespoke menswear remotely.

His commitment extends beyond fashion; Obafemi aims to empower local artisans. “We plan to train 500 tailors by 2030 through our in-house academy, fostering sustainable craftsmanship and creating opportunities for youth,” he explains.

Reflecting on his journey, Obafemi emphasizes the cultural significance of his work: “Fashion is a powerful tool for storytelling, cultural preservation, and building confidence. I hope Penuel’s Threads continues to inspire others to embrace their heritage through what they wear.”

As a prospective leader in fashion, Emmanuel Obafemi exemplifies how heritage, craftsmanship, and contemporary design can converge to redefine menswear in Nigeria and beyond.
