Osimhen's silence on transfer move unsettles fans

Published 1 day ago2 minute read

The continuous silence by Super Eagles top striker, Victor Osimhen, in taking a decision about his future, despite growing interest from several top clubs, is now a subject of worries for many Nigerians and his fans worldwide.

With a €75 million release clause still in place, Osimhen remains a hot commodity on the transfer market, with Turkish giant, Galatasaray continuing to hope for his return, while Saudi side Al-Hilal is reportedly preparing a renewed offer.

In a recent interview on Daddy Freeze’s YouTube channel, Osimhen was said to have addressed the speculation without speaking his next move saying: “You know, this is what happens when the season ends. Some voices are normal. There are many clubs that want me, but right now I’m focusing on holidays to have fun.”

He reflected on his time at Galatasaray: “While I am having fun, I remember my season with Galatasaray. I am reviewing the goals I have scored, but also my mistakes. Only by reviewing the mistakes can I improve, and this has always helped me both as a footballer and as a man.’

Alongside Al-Hilal and Galatasaray, Italian giants Juventus are also reportedly monitoring the situation.

However, some fans of Osimhen are eager to see the striker tie down a club in this window transfer, particularly, in the English Premier League.

Those who spoke on various sports channels monitored by The Guardian in Lagos, on Friday, said that the striker’s delay in announcing his next move is becoming worrisome.

“After Osimhen rejected his move to Saudi Arabia, I was expecting him to name his next club, but that has not happened and some of us are becoming worried,” sports analyst, Christopher Mudiaga, said on a radio programme.

Another analyst, who gave his name only as Ossai said: “We can’t wait to see Osimhen move to the English Premier League this time.”

Meanwhile, former England international, Rio Ferdinand said on Friday that he believes Osimhen is “waiting for Manchester United” after snubbing a big-money transfer to the Saudi Pro League.

It will be called that Osimhen was Chelsea’s top target for the centre-forward role last summer, but their last-minute attempt to buy him fell on deaf ears. The Nigerian was also linked with a move to other top clubs including Liverpool, but it failed to see the light of day.
