Original 'Blade' Writer Hasn't Given Up on Mahershala Ali Despite Being "99% done" With Superheroes
Mahershala Ali’s Blade was one of the most anticipated movies in the MCU until Marvel Studios decided to cut the project loose for reasons that still haven’t been made public.
David S. Goyer, who is the writer of several iconic superhero movies like The Dark Knight trilogy and the original Blade movie, even offered his help to Marvel Studios for help with the reboot; however, Marvel simply stated that they had figured out the problem and that they didn’t need Goyer’s help. That was several months ago, until Blade was still in production!

Despite Mahershala Ali’s Blade being completely done for, fans still have a faint flicker of hope that the MCU might start working on the project sooner or later in the future. Even writer David S. Goyer is hoping that the MCU does at least something with Blade’s character.
Being the writer of the OG movie, Goyer revealed that he was often asked by fans and families to work on the upcoming Mahershala Ali project just because he had a certain sense of expertise in the area.
Goyer, who had established himself as an iconic writer in the superhero genre, was overqualified to write Mahershala Ali’s Blade. However, while speaking to Variety, the writer revealed that he had already had his agents talk to the guys at Marvel Studios.
And I wasn’t even really thinking about it, but then I had my agent call Marvel and say, ‘Do you guys need any help?’ And they said, ‘We love you, but we think we’ve cracked it now, and we’re in a good place.’
He further continued,
And then the latest thing happened. And so no, they haven’t contacted me.
By the ‘latest thing’, Goyer referenced the cancellation of Mahershala Ali’s Blade almost completely, and despite fans wanting their favorite directors to direct the movie, it just seems that Blade is not going to happen for a while.
Well, as we said, David S. Goyer was indeed the writer of the original Blade movie and, as a result, also owes his Hollywood career to this iconic Wesley Snipes film from 1998.

As the interview continued with Variety, David S. Goyer revealed that although Marvel politely declined his request to be included in the Blade project, he’s still willing to help the studio out if they want to continue with the production of the Mahershala Ali movie.
Stating that everything he has, he owes to the initial film that made his career in Hollywood, David S. Goyer went down a little memory lane and was happy to help Marvel Studios if they ever needed him.
I might consider it because I love the character, and it sort of started my superhero career. Even though I’m now considered a DC guy, I started as a Marvel guy.
He continued,
I would consider it, it would be fun to return to that world. That being said, I’m pretty much otherwise 99% done with superheroes. I love this stuff. I watch all the movies, but I’ve just done so much in the world. But yeah, I would consider it, just for old time’s sake.
Well, we think that if Goyer were to indeed return, Mahershala Ali’s Blade would go on to become one of the best films in the MCU. Goyer, who is known to be a DC guy (having written several DC movies), would create a storm in the MCU if the writer were to potentially join the franchise that started his career once more.
We think that Marvel Studios should consider his offer and actually let Goyer write Mahershala Ali’s Blade while they can do their own thing. As much as we would want that to happen, there’s no confirmation that Goyer will be granted permission to work on the movie. Till then, Mahershala Ali’s Blade is put on an indefinite hold.
