KENNEWICK, Wash. - One person was taken to the hospital following a crash between a school bus carrying children and a pickup truck at a busy Kennewick intersection Thursday.

The crash occurred just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of 10th Street and Clearwater Avenue.

While some children had minor injuries in the crash, officials confirmed none of them were serious.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to a nearby hospital. Their condition has not been released.

Kennewick Police Department Officer Jesus Contreras emphasized the importance of careful driving, especially at busy intersections.

"When you're at an intersection, always come to a complete stop at any time. I think that's just general advice to anybody driving, and always make sure you do look for the oncoming traffic," Contreras said.

The school district sent alerts to parents of the children involved in the crash. Another bus was dispatched to the scene to pick up the students and continue their route.

Kennewick Police Department officials said the crash remains under investigation. The cause has not yet been determined, but Contreras says the driver of the school bus had pulled out in front of the driver of the silver pickup.

Authorities remind drivers to remain vigilant and pay full attention when navigating through intersections, particularly during school hours when buses are transporting students.

The intersection of 10th Street and Clearwater Avenue was shut down for about an hour while the crash was cleaned up.
