confirmed that her comedy One of Them Days, which was released in theaters in late January of this year, is getting a sequel. The second feature is still in early development at TriStar Pictures, but leads Palmer and SZA are set to make a return, along with producer Issa Rae and the original creative team.

One of Them Days was a surprising box office hit, making over $50 million globally after its release in January. The film was then released on streaming via Netflix in late March, where it had a great performance as it stayed on the streamer’s Top 10 Most-Watched list for three consecutive weeks.

The TriStar Pictures film, directed by Lawrence Lamont from a script by Syretta Singleton, centers around roommates and best friends Dreux (Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA), who have just found out that Alyssa’s hookup stole the only money they had for rent. Now, it is up to them to find a way to get the money back before they get evicted, all while trying to keep their relationship from crumbling. The feature also had performances from Lil Rel Howery, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Maude Apatow, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Katt Williams, and Janelle James.

One of Them Days was produced by Issa Rae and Sara Diya Rastogi under the Hoorae banner; James Lopez and Poppy Hanks; Denise Davis under ColorCreative; and Charles D. King for Macro Film Studios. The feature was developed as a project of Sony’s CoCre Lab, which, according to The Hollywood Reporter, “was a previous collaboration between the studio and ColorCreative to support ascending, diverse screenwriters in developing original feature ideas.”

Keke Palmer has been on a hot streak in her career for the past several years, with performances in Lorene Scafaria’s Hustlers, Jordan Peele’s Nope, and the animated feature Lightyear. Her upcoming projects include The Pickup, where she will star opposite Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson, and is set to release on Amazon Prime in August of this year, and the Aziz Ansari-directed feature, Good Fortune. SZA made her film debut in One of Them Days, but she has already made a name for herself in the music industry as a five-time Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter.

At this time, there are no other announcements for this sequel, but with Palmer and SZA’s chemistry, fans of the original should be in for a treat no matter what.
