A female broadcast journalist with Ogun State Television (OGTV), Abeokuta, Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu, died on Monday after collapsing while preparing for her afternoon shift at the state-owned station.

Her death was confirmed in a statement by the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Mr. Bunmi Adigun, who described the incident as a devastating loss to the journalism community.

Aged 52, Mrs. Agbakaizu was a former Ex-Officio member of the NUJ Ogun Council and held various leadership roles within the union.

“Bukola Agbakaizu, a dedicated staff member of OGTV, collapsed while getting ready for her afternoon duty. Despite efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead on arrival at the Federal Medical Centre,” the NUJ statement read.

The union described her as a “versatile journalist and passionate comrade,” noting her service as a former vice chairperson of the OGTV chapel and a key member of the Wale Olanrewaju-led Executive.

“Her vibrant spirit and commitment to the profession will be deeply missed. She leaves behind a legacy of professionalism and service,” the statement added.

Mrs. Agbakaizu is survived by her two children, her aged mother, and a wide circle of colleagues and friends who are mourning her sudden departure.

In a condolence message, the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) expressed profound shock over her death.

Chairperson of Ogun NAWOJ, Sekinat Salam, described the late broadcaster as a consummate professional and dedicated staff member, whose passing is both painful and difficult to accept.
