NPP Minority Caucus rescinds decision to boycott parliamentary sittings over Chairman Wontumi's detention

Accra, May 30, GNA-Members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament on Friday reported to the Chamber of Parliament for the business of the House, contrary to the Caucus’ threat to stay out of Parliamentary proceedings over Chairman Wontumi’s continuous detention in EOCO custody for failing to meet his bail conditions.
On Thursday, May 29, the Minority Caucus staged a walkout to protest the detention of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi.
On Friday, May 30 sitting of Parliament, the Ghana News Agency saw the leadership of the Minority Caucus including Mr Frank Annor-Dompreh, Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Mr Habib Iddrisu, the first Deputy Minority Chief and Member of Parliament for Tolon, Mr Jerry Ahmed Shiab, the second Deputy Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe.
However, the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Efutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, was absent from the Chamber of the House during the sitting.
On Thursday, May 29, the Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin led his side to boycott parliamentary proceedings and subsequently gathered at the entrance of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to protest the continuous detention of Chairman Wontumi in EOCO custody.
The Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako was granted bail by EOCO in a sum of GHc50 million on Wednesday, May 28, but failed to meet the bail condition, hence his continuous detention.
Chairman Wontumi has been charged for causing financial loss to the state in Ghana Export-import Bank(EXIMBANK) contract deal.
