Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has launched a Care Foundation to provide a broader scope of health support for his constituents.

The new initiative is born out of years of impactful health interventions, particularly in the fight against Hepatitis B in the Effutu Municipality.

Over the past three years, more than 20,000 residents have been screened and vaccinated against Hepatitis B through the MP’s efforts.

Additionally, 1,016 individuals who tested positive have been placed on free treatment, while about 50 newborns born to Hepatitis B positive mothers been supported.

In order to expand the MP’s health support initiative to cover other health issues and social interventions, the Afenyo-Markin Care Foundation has been launched in place of the Mumbies Foundation which delivered these interventions through the MP’s support.

Speaking at the launch, Israel Adoble, Project Coordinator for Mumbies Foundation, which has now become the Afenyo-Markin Care Foundation said; “the time has come to broaden our mode of operation. So under this new foundation, we are going to inculcate other health interventions”.

Beyond the launch, May 27 every year, which is the birthday of the Effutu MP has been institutionalized for vigorous campaign and awareness creation on Hepatitis B.
