The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Wisdom Benoie, for allegedly raping and sexually assaulting his 15-year-old stepdaughter. The alleged incidents occurred in the Yalwan Tsakani area of Bauchi metropolis. The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed the arrest and the details surrounding the case.

The situation escalated on May 31, 2025, at approximately 0200 hours, when a group of local youths confronted Benoie, whom they suspected of secretly molesting his stepdaughter. Operatives attached to Operation Restore Peace (ORP), under the leadership of CSP Kim Abert, intervened in the ensuing mob action and successfully saved the suspect. The police intervention was prompted by a report made by the victim’s father to the ORP unit located in the Yelwan Tsakani area.

Preliminary investigations by the police have revealed that Wisdom Benoie married the victim’s mother, thereby becoming the stepfather to the 15-year-old teenager. It is alleged that Benoie had been sexually assaulting the victim on multiple occasions. These assaults reportedly took place while the victim's mother was asleep, with the suspect entering the victim's room and engaging in non-consensual sexual acts.

According to reports, the victim endured the abuse in silence for some time before confiding in neighbours about her ordeal. This disclosure led to a coordinated action by community members, which ultimately resulted in the suspect allegedly being caught in the act.

Following his arrest, Wisdom Benoie was interrogated by the police, during which he reportedly confessed to the crimes. The 15-year-old victim has since been evacuated to a medical facility for thorough examination and necessary care.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has taken a keen interest in the case. He has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet and comprehensive investigation. Upon completion of the investigation, the suspect, Wisdom Benoie, will be charged to court for prosecution. Commissioner Aliyu also reaffirmed the command's commitment to maintaining peace and security within the state and ensuring that justice is served for all victims of oppression.
