NPFL: Heartland seek crucial win over Akwa Utd in relegation showdown - Daily Trust

Heartland FC are gearing up for a do-or-die clash as they host Akwa United in their final fixture of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. The crucial encounter is scheduled for Sunday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.

With survival on the line, the Naze Millionaires are fully focused on securing all three points. “The final battle! We face Akwa United with our sights on the maximum points,” the club posted on their official Facebook page, underlining the high stakes of the match.

Heartland currently sit in 17th place on the league table with 45 points, just one point above Akwa United, who occupy 18th position with 44 points. A win for either side would guarantee safety from relegation, while anything less could spell disaster.

The pressure is even greater following the confirmed relegation of Sunshine Stars and Lobi Stars to the Nigeria National League (NNL). That leaves just one more spot to be decided — and both Heartland and Akwa United are fighting to avoid it.

Fans can expect a tense and fiercely contested match as both teams battle for survival, pride, and a place in the NPFL next season.
