NiMet predicts heavy rainfall in Kaduna, Plateau, others

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted Moderate-heavy rainfall in Kaduna, Plateau and other States.

The forecast period is Tuesday June 3 to Thursday June 5, 2025.

The predicted heavy rainfall, according to NiMet, could lead to flash flooding, riverine flooding, soil erosion, thunder and lightning, and strong wind.

The Agency added that the floods could also lead to displacements of people, outbreaks of water-borne diseases, and damage to infrastructures like roads and bridges.

A impact-based weather forecast on Monday night by NiMet reads: “On Tuesday, 3rd June 2025 (0000-2359hrs), Moderate to Heavy Rainfall is expected over parts of Kaduna and Plateau states.

“Light to Moderate Rainfall is expected over parts of Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Adamawa, Kaduna, Plateau, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Lagos, Oyo, Abia, Nasarawa and Niger states (See places in Yellow).

“Light Rainfall with little or no risk of hydro-meteorological hazard is expected over the remaining parts of the country.

“On Wednesday 4th June 2025 (0000 – 2359hrs), Moderate to Heavy Rainfall is expected over Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Taraba, Edo, Cross River, Oyo, Adamawa, Taraba, Plateau, Kaduna, the Federal Capital Territory, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Ogun, Nasarawa and Ondo states.

“Light to Moderate Rainfall is expected over Enugu, Edo, Ondo, Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, Kogi, parts of Kebbi, Kaduna, Benue, Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, Osun, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Adamawa and Borno states.

“Low rainfall with little or no risk of hydro-meteorological hazard is expected over the remaining parts of the country.”

The prediction continues: “On Thursday 5th June 2025 (0000 – 2359hrs), Moderate to heavy Rainfall is expected over Adamawa, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Plateau, Nasarawa and Benue states

“Low to moderate Rainfall is expected over the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

“Low rainfall with little or no risk of hydro-meteorological hazard is expected over the remaining parts of the country”.
