In a statement released by the Command on Sunday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, emphasised that any officer found meddling in land-related civil cases will face severe disciplinary action.

The Imo State Police Command has warned all its officers and personnel to steer clear of civil disputes related to land matters, in strict compliance with a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

In a statement released by the Command on Sunday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, emphasised that any officer found meddling in land-related civil cases will face severe disciplinary action.

He stressed that land matters remain within the jurisdiction of civil courts and do not fall under the purview of law enforcement intervention unless a clear criminal element is involved.

“In line with the IGP’s directive, the Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has issued a stern warning to all personnel to steer clear of land-related civil disputes,” the statement said.

“Any officer found culpable will face firm disciplinary measures.”

The statement added that petitioners who attempt to “mislead the Police will also be investigated and prosecuted”.

Last week, Danjuma embarked on a statewide inspection of checkpoints to monitor the activities of officers stationed across the state, especially those posted on major highways.

In a press statement, the spokesperson for the Command, DSP Henry Okoye, stated that the initiative aimed to entrench professionalism and discipline, thereby renewing public confidence in police operations.

Okoye noted that the inspection became necessary following reports and complaints from members of the public concerning alleged extortion, harassment, and other forms of unprofessional conduct by some officers on field duties.

“During the tour, CP Danjuma addressed officers at various duty posts, reiterating the core values of modern policing: discipline, integrity, and respect for human rights.

“He issued a stern warning that any officer found engaging in extortion, intimidation, or misconduct will face strict disciplinary action, including dismissal and possible prosecution,” the statement read.

The Command’s spokesperson further disclosed that seven personnel were arrested during the inspection for various infractions.

He confirmed that appropriate disciplinary measures had been initiated against them in line with established procedures and assured that further updates would be communicated in due course.

The CP also interacted with several motorists and commuters, urging them not to give money to any police officer on duty or surrender their mobile phones for unauthorised searches.

He emphasised that such acts are unlawful, unethical, and will not be condoned by the Command.
