The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of Inspector Obic Modestus, a police officer seen in a video violently assaulting an Uber driver.

He stated, “The Police Officer, Inspector Obic Modestus, has been summoned by the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) #LagosPoliceNG. He will be handed over to the Provost Department for appropriate disciplinary measures.
“The Lagos State Police Command, under CP Olohundare Jimoh, will not condone any form of incivility to members of the public.”
SaharaReporters had reported that a group of police officers were caught in a video assaulting an Uber driver in the Ketu area of Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, involved the officers dragging and physically attacking the yet-to-be-identified driver in broad daylight.
The confrontation has since drawn public condemnation after footage of the assault went viral on social media.
Eyewitnesses say the officers appeared aggressive and unprovoked during the altercation.
The video, obtained by SaharaReporters, shows the Uber driver being manhandled by the policemen as passersby watched in shock.
In the video, the police, while dragging and hitting the yet-to-be-identified Uber driver, were heard saying, “Are you mad? Are you mad?”

According to an internal police communication obtained by SaharaReporters, the incident occurred on Thursday, May 8, 2025, around 11am, near Ikire, Osun State, along the Ife/Ibadan Expressway.
