Two Nigerian Army personnel have fled in the Ikotun area of Lagos State after allegedly torturing a mason, identified only as Yahaya to death over an alleged unfinished job.

The police in Lagos State said Yahaya died after allegedly being subjected to physical punishment by the two soldiers over a N1.5 million dispute involving an incomplete ceiling installation.

According to a police wireless signal obtained by SaharaReporters, the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 2, 2025.

One Olamide Sodiq Adeosun, 23, of 26 Tomori Street, Atan, Ogun State, had reported to the police that he paid Yahaya the sum of N1.5 million in June to carry out a POP (plaster of Paris) installation at his house located opposite Aso Rock Hotel, Abaranje Road, Ikotun.

However, Yahaya allegedly disappeared after receiving payment and failed to complete the job.

Upon spotting Yahaya near his house around noon on July 2, Adeosun contacted a military officer, identified as one Sergeant Balogun and requested assistance in recovering the money from the deceased.

Balogun reportedly arrived at the scene with a military colleague, where they allegedly forced Yahaya to perform a physical punishment known as “frog jump.”

However, Yahaya collapsed during the exercise and was rushed to Isolo General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

Following the incident, the two soldiers allegedly fled the scene.

Ikotun Police Division detectives, led by the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), visited the location, documented the scene, and deposited Yahaya’s body at the Mainland General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

The primary suspect, Adeosun, has been arrested, and police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing soldiers involved.

The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
