Police barricaded the roads ahead of the planned Saba Saba protests, paralysing transport in the country's capital.

Long-distance travellers remained stranded as bus and matatu operators were forced to park, halting their operations.

Bus and matatu operators plying Waiyaki Way were forced to park along the Kabete Police Station.

The police barricaded the major highway at the Kangemi Supermarket, paralysing transport and business along the major highway.

Commuters trying to access the town and places of work were forced to walk.

Matatus plying Thika road were forced to park at the Ruiru bypass as commuters remained stranded for the better part of the morning.

Major streets in the CBD were barricaded as businesses remained closed for the better part of Monday morning.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, July 6, Kenya Railways temporarily suspended Madaraka Express train service, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.

The Nairobi-bound train was scheduled for a 10pm departure from Mombasa, but the corporation suspended the trip due to technical issues.

Affected passengers complained about a lack of clear communication about whether their ticket fees would be refunded or not.

"We have been here for more than two hours. We were from Summer Tides, but we got a notification from the SGR team around 30 minutes before arriving here that the 10pm train had been suspended. We are all here, stranded, not sure what is happening... There is no official communication."

Businesses remained closed as major streets in the CBD were barricaded by the police.
