NFF, Super Eagles To Meet in Lagos to Strategize for Crucial World Cup Qualifier 

The players and officials of the Super Eagles are scheduled to convene with the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) this weekend to strategise. For the successful execution of the country’s remaining 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September.

An official from the federation informed The Guardian yesterday that the upcoming meeting will take place in Lagos. Either during or prior to Skipper William Troost-Ekong’s celebrity charity event, which is set to occur at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, on Saturday.

Under the theme “Play for Purpose,” the Troost-Ekong Foundation (TEF) event will unite some of Africa’s most prominent figures in sports and entertainment. To raise awareness and generate funds for TEF’s ongoing youth development initiatives in education, healthcare, and grassroots sports.

However, the NFF official, who requested to remain anonymous, stated that the event will provide an opportunity for the federation to discuss the remaining World Cup qualifiers. Which the Super Eagles must win to secure qualification for the championship after missing the last edition in Qatar.

“We met with the players during the friendlies in England and Russia, but with most of the players arriving in Lagos for the Ekong game, the NFF deemed it an opportune moment to ensure that everyone is aligned for the challenges that lie ahead.

The standings show Nigeria in fourth place, tied with third-placed Benin, while Lesotho (six points) and Zimbabwe (four points) complete the standings.

Nevertheless, the situation could change dramatically if FIFA deducts three points and three goals from South Africa, who fielded an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, in their 2-0 victory over Lesotho in one of the matches of the series.

Should that occur, it implies that the Super Eagles have everything to contend for, as they could surpass the Bafana Bafana with victories in their final two matches of the series.

Nigeria is set to host Rwanda and play away against South Africa in September, followed by the last set of matches against Lesotho (away) and Benin Republic (home).
