The driving force behind the Panthers’ state title run was nearly untouchable all season. The Molloy commit struck out 206 in 157 innings and pitched to a 0.36 ERA, 0.61 WHIP and held opponents to a .121 batting average. She allowed no earned runs in 24 of the 27 games she pitched.

Zicchinelli pitched a one-hit shutout in the Class A state semifinal and hurled another shutout in the championship game.

“She’s the single greatest player I’ve ever been around,” coach Matt Timmons said. “From an athletic perspective, a mindset perspective, leadership, she’s just perfect.”

From the leadoff spot, Zicchinelli batted .467 with a 1.143 OPS, 44 runs scored and 24 RBIs. In her five-year career, the Panthers won three Suffolk titles, two Long Island crowns and a state championship.

Said Timmons: “I will be and our program will be forever changed because of her presence and because of the mark she’s left.”

Simmons delivered two season-saving gems with Glen Cove one game away from elimination in the county final.

Simmons tossed a no-hitter in Game 2 of the Class AA county final against MacArthur. In the decisive Game 3, she allowed one run and hit a double to start a rally in the top of the seventh inning of Glen Cove’s 2-1 win.

"Brooke stepped up for us big time and the progression of her maturity has been incredible," coach Kim Kessel said. "When she's out there, she's focused and knows exactly what she has to do."

Simmons was the engine for the Big Red squad that won their first county championship since 1985. She pitched to a 1.60 ERA and struck out 197. The junior hit .458 with a 1.413 OPS, 14 doubles, five home runs and 19 RBIs.

The Fairfield commit batted .500 with 38 RBIs, 27 runs, 10 stolen bases and 16 extra-base hits to help the Friars to their fifth straight CHSAA state title.

Gordon struck out 148 in 132 innings and pitched to a 1.17 ERA and 0.88 WHIP to earn the NSCHSAA Pitcher of the Year award. The Iona commit batted .389 with three home runs and 16 RBIs.

The Farmingdale State commit batted .444 with a 1.453 OPS, 37 RBIs and 32 runs. The Panthers’ cleanup hitter clubbed eight home runs and six doubles.

Lundquist hit .455 with a .585 OBP, 21 RBIs and drew 17 walks. The UConn commit had 10 extra-base hits, stole 41 bases and scored 40 runs.

After undergoing shoulder surgery in the fall, Marelli returned to the circle midseason and pitched to a 1.34 ERA and struck out 130 in 72 2/3 innings. The Mercy University commit hit .473 with a 1.363 OPS, four home runs and 35 RBIs.

The College of Charleston commit pitched to a 0.85 ERA and struck out 187 in 116 innings. She surpassed 700 career strikeouts. McDaid batted .455 with a 0.591 OBP, 16 RBIs and 23 runs.

The Friars’ leadoff hitter batted .463 with 31 runs and 37 stolen bases. The Stonehill commit was named the NSCHSAA Player of the Year.

Nosovitch struck out 306 and had a .736 ERA to lead the Frogs to a Class B Long Island title. The Kutztown commit hit .419 with a 1.121 OPS, 31 RBIs and four home runs.

Renny hit .554 with a .597 OBP and slugged 1.196. She hit nine doubles, four triples and stole 15 bases.

Schiereck, who was named Nassau Player of the Year by the coaches, hit .482 with a 1.488 OPS and eight home runs. The Stony Brook commit had 34 RBIs and scored 32 runs to help Massapequa to the Class AAA state final.

Schweitzer was named Suffolk Large School Pitcher of the year after pitching to a 1.14 ERA, 243 strikeouts and picking up 20 wins.

Trapani hit .485 with 28 runs scored and 23 RBIs. The Wilmington University commit hit three home runs and three triples.

Varga hit .475 with 30 RBIs and 21 runs scored to lead East Islip to a Class AA Long Island title. The Stony Brook commit had a .600 OBP and a 1.338 OPS.

Kessel brought Glen Cove to its first county final appearance since 2008, when she starred for the Big Red and guided the team to its first county championship in 40 years.

Vlacci led Riverhead to its first county championship in program history and back-to-back league titles for the first time in over 50 years.
