New Initiative Demands Better Postpartum Support on Mother's Day
The Recovery Method has launched a nationwide platform aimed at transforming postpartum care in America. Founded by a healthcare professional and mother, Dr. Naha Pandya, the initiative seeks to provide education, community, and advocacy to address the critical lack of support for postpartum women. The Recovery Method serves as a one-stop, evidence-based resource for mothers and healthcare providers alike, addressing the inconsistent, underfunded, and often misunderstood nature of current postpartum care.
Dr. Pandya emphasizes the importance of supporting mothers during the postpartum period, stating, "When a baby is born, so is a mother, and she deserves care, support, and a community that sees her." The Recovery Method aims to fill the gaps in postpartum care by offering accessible resources, a provider network, and community events that provide real solutions to the challenges faced by new mothers.
The United States faces high maternal mortality rates compared to other developed countries, with Black and Indigenous mothers being disproportionately affected. Mental health concerns, postpartum physical complications, and social isolation are also on the rise, while most mothers receive only one follow-up appointment weeks after hospital discharge. The Recovery Method aims to empower mothers to recover fully—physically, mentally, and emotionally—by addressing this crisis.
The traditional postpartum model often prioritizes infant care, neglecting the mother's recovery. The Recovery Method seeks to change this by offering an interdisciplinary approach rooted in compassion, inclusivity, and science. This includes a comprehensive digital education library for providers and mothers, a growing database of postpartum care professionals, and guidance on self-advocacy, body image, nutrition, and emotional resilience. The Recovery Method advocates for postpartum recovery to be a standard part of maternal care.
The Recovery Method is actively seeking healthcare partners, support networks, and wellness professionals to advance postpartum health. They are partnering with nationally recognized organizations such as Shugie, Progress Through Play, YANAM2M, and Chicago Family Doulas to expand their reach and support for new mothers. Providers can join the network to contribute expertise and participate in standardizing and humanizing postpartum care.
This fall, The Recovery Method will host expos in Denver, CO (September 21) and Chicago, IL (October 25). These interactive events will connect new and expecting families with resources, featuring expert panels, resource exhibits, giveaways, and community-building opportunities. The expos aim to bring holistic maternal care to the forefront of public conversation.
