NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — An extreme heat warning has been issued in New Braunfels, but residents are not letting the soaring temperatures keep them from enjoying the outdoors.

Despite the 100-degree weather, Prince Solms Park was bustling with visitors, each finding their own way to embrace the heat wave.

"We're having a good time, we just graduated. Jumping off some trees - I expected it to be hotter," said one group of tubers.

While many are out enjoying the sun, the city is also preparing to accommodate those seeking refuge from the extreme temperatures. Fire Chief Ruy Lozano emphasized the importance of having cooling centers available.

"Our goal is to coordinate with community stakeholders, like first footing the Cricoma Crisis Center and the West Side Center, which is one of our own facilities, just to have a place that they can go for refuge, cool off," said Lozano.

Lozano noted that although the cooling centers don't typically see a lot of traffic, it's crucial to have resources ready.

"The reality is, at any given moment, anyone's house can always have, all of a sudden have their AC break. It always happens at the most opportunity moment, and usually on the hottest days of years," he said.

Lozano advised residents to stay hydrated and protect their bodies during the extreme weather.
