NCAA Juniors Finals Controversy

The Letran Squires' quest for a three-peat in the NCAA Season 100 juniors basketball tournament was abruptly halted by the La Salle Greenhills (LSGH) Greenies in a closely contested match that ended 78-77. The Squires have formally requested a review of the game's final moments, specifically focusing on a play with 6.5 seconds remaining. They allege that an LSGH player, Arle Podador, flopped, which should have resulted in a defensive foul. Given that the Greenies were already in the penalty, this would have awarded the Squires two free throws and a chance to potentially win the game.
Squires coach Willie Miller penned a letter to NCAA ManComm chairman Hercules Callanta of Lyceum and vice-chairman Melchor Divina of Mapua, asserting that the game's live stream clearly showed the LSGH player flopping. According to Miller, this call could have significantly altered the game's outcome. Despite the referees reviewing the play in real-time, the officials deemed it inconclusive. Subsequently, Daniel Padilla of the Squires missed a shot that could have won the game as time expired.
The Squires are urging the ManComm to review the incident to ensure fairness and integrity in the game. As of now, the NCAA has not responded to the letter, and it remains unclear what specific actions the Squires are hoping for, given that the matter isn't formally under protest.
Meanwhile, La Salle Green Hills celebrated their victory, which not only dethroned the two-time defending champion Letran Squires but also secured them a spot in the NCAA Season 100 juniors’ basketball finals. Guillan Quines led the Greenies with 28 points, including a crucial go-ahead basket with just six seconds left in the game. The win marks a significant turnaround for the Greenies, who avenged their Season 98 finals loss to the Squires.
LSGH will now face the top-seeded University of Perpetual Help Junior Altas in a best-of-three title series. Quines' performance was particularly noteworthy as he returned from a one-game suspension to lead his team to victory. Despite Padilla's 20 points and nine rebounds for the Squires, Letran missed the presence of Jhuniel Dela Rama, who was suspended due to a flagrant foul in the previous game.
The scores for the game were: La Salle Greenhills (78) – Quines 28, Gomez 15, Podador 14, Ison 9, Sharma 5, Ortega 2, Yutuc 2, Osis 2, Abad 1. Letran (77) – Padilla 20, Hugo 19, Valdeavilla 14, Cargo 5, Silorio 4, Villanueva 4, Alforque 4, Pico 3, Cruz 2, Quijada 2, Quinones 0, Lumague 0.
Quarterscores: 17-22; 38-45; 60-60; 78-77.
