NAWAKWI SAW HER DEATH COMING

Published 1 week ago2 minute read

The recent death of Edith Nawakwi, a prominent Zambian figure, has ignited a wave of controversy and accusations, primarily directed at the current UPND (United Party for National Development) government. Fred M’membe, President of the Socialist Party, has penned a scathing critique, alleging that Nawakwi's death is a direct consequence of the government's cruel treatment of opposition leaders and critics.

M’membe's article, laden with accusations of hypocrisy and heartlessness, points to Nawakwi's arrest on sedition charges following her criticism of the abduction of Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda. He argues that the relentless court appearances, compounded by her illness, contributed to her untimely demise. M’membe doesn't hold back in his condemnation, suggesting that those who pursued the sedition charges against Nawakwi are likely pleased by her death. He further accuses the government of mocking Nawakwi's illness and delaying her medical evacuation to South Africa until it was allegedly too late.

The article extends its criticism to the treatment of other individuals, including GBM (Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba), whose access to specialized medical treatment is purportedly being denied, and former President Edgar Lungu, who was allegedly blocked from seeking medical care abroad. M’membe paints a picture of a vindictive government, questioning whether more lives will be sacrificed to appease President Hichilema's desire for vengeance and power.

Adding another layer to the narrative, a close family member of the late Edith Nawakwi has revealed that her health deteriorated significantly after her arrest disrupted her periodic medical treatment in India. According to the family member, the government initially refused to grant her clearance to travel, and when she finally did, medical experts in India deemed her condition terminal due to the delay. This account suggests that Nawakwi herself foresaw her death, even going so far as to plan her funeral arrangements.

Chifumu Banda, FDD (Forum for Democracy and Development) vice-president, corroborates the family's account, stating that government assistance for Nawakwi's illness came too late, after the party had already contacted the Secretary to Cabinet. The Daily Revelation Zambia's report further emphasizes the family's claim that Nawakwi's treatment was disrupted by her arrest related to the "Pheluna case." These allegations, if true, paint a disturbing picture of political persecution and denial of essential medical care. The accusations leveled against the UPND government are severe, suggesting a pattern of vindictiveness and disregard for human life. The situation warrants a thorough and impartial investigation to determine the truth behind these claims and ensure accountability for any wrongdoing.
