Nana Agradaa's Sentencing for Money-Doubling Scam

Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa and also as Evangelist Mama Pat, the founder of Heaven Way Church, has been convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labor. An Accra Circuit Court delivered the sentence on July 3, 2025, finding her guilty on multiple counts of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretenses.

The conviction originates from a widely publicized money-doubling scheme. Prosecutors elaborated on how Agradaa utilized television broadcasts and various social media platforms to promote her claims of possessing supernatural powers, which she asserted could double money for her followers in exchange for substantial cash offerings. Her activities were determined to have exploited the desperation and faith of unsuspecting victims, many of whom surrendered their savings under the belief they would receive miraculous financial returns.

Public attention was drawn to the case following her arrest on Sunday, October 9, 2022, by the Ghana Police Service. This apprehension was triggered by numerous allegations from her church members, who reported being scammed after attending an all-night service. Earlier, Nana Agradaa had advertised in a viral video her intention to distribute money to attendees of her service on Friday, October 7, 2022. However, participants subsequently reported that after providing her with money, she failed to uphold her part of the agreement and eventually dismissed them from the church, leading to widespread public outcry and subsequent police intervention.
