Nana Agradaa's Sentencing for Money-Doubling Scam

Nana Agradaa, known in private life as Patricia Asiedua, and the founder of Heaven Way Church, has been convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labor by an Accra Circuit Court. The sentencing, which occurred on July 3, 2025, followed her conviction on multiple counts of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretenses. This judgment came after a pregnancy test was conducted on Agradaa prior to sentencing, though the results were not publicly disclosed.

Prosecutors established that Agradaa, who had previously been a repented fetish priestess known as Evangelist Mama Pat, exploited television broadcasts and social media platforms to promote a deceptive money-doubling scheme. She falsely claimed to possess supernatural powers that could multiply money for her followers in exchange for substantial cash offerings. The court found that her activities capitalized on the desperation and faith of unsuspecting victims, many of whom gave away their savings with the belief that they would receive miraculous financial returns.

The case gained significant public attention following an all-night church service held on Friday, October 7, 2022. Agradaa had heavily advertised this event, promising to give out money to attendees. However, participants reported that things did not go as planned, leading to widespread accusations that she had scammed them by taking their money without fulfilling her promises. Many cried foul and were subsequently sent away from the church, prompting them to raise alarms online.

In response to these allegations, the Ghana Police Service arrested Patricia Asiedua alias Nana Agradaa on Sunday, October 9, 2022. A police statement confirmed her arrest, stating she was assisting with investigations into "money-doubling scam leveled against her by some members of the public." The police further urged anyone affected by the alleged scam to report to the Accra Regional Police Command for assistance.

Following the sentencing, Nana Agradaa's husband, Angel Asiamah, expressed his frustration with the verdict. While speaking to the press outside the courtroom, he stated his surprise at the initial complaints that led to the case. He dismissed the ordeal as a "tribulation" faced by individuals chosen by God, drawing parallels to biblical figures who endured trials. Angel Asiamah questioned the logic of attendees expecting their money to be doubled, remarking, "They came to the all-night service hoping that she would double their money for them, which does not make sense because we go to church; we give offertory. So how can you expect double of it that night?" Despite the severe sentence, he remained affirmative that Heaven Way International Church would continue its services, asserting, "The church will still go on. I'm a pastor; there are other pastors in the church. But all this is not a problem; 15 years in prison is not any news." Agradaa's legal team has since announced their intention to file an appeal against both the conviction and the 15-year sentence, which they deem "excessive."
