On the evening of Thursday, May 8, a terrible accident occurred on the Njoro-Elburgon highway, leading to the deaths of 12 matatu passengers who perished on the spot.

Speaking to Citizen TV, a rescuer heartbreakingly revealed that he was helping retrieve bodies from the crash site without knowing that his father was one of those who perished.

"I was at the crash scene helping to retrieve bodies without knowing that my father was one of those who were in the ill-fated vehicle. I received a call and was informed that he was one of the casualties and that his body was taken to the mortuary," he said.

Earlier today, bereaved families gathered at the Molo Funeral Home to identify victims of the crash.

A father disclosed that his kin should have alighted at the stage, but the speeding matatu did not stop.

"The vehicle could not stop and it ended up hitting a lorry, leading to the 12 deaths," the distraught father said.
