Moot court explores AI in policing at DU's Campus Law Centre
New Delhi: The Campus Law Centre of Delhi University on Sunday held the 21st edition of the
KK Luthra Memorial Moot Court Competition
on the topic "Legality of the Use of AI Tools in Policing".
The event, organised in memory of senior Advocate KK Luthra, brought together law students from across the country and abroad to debate current
legal issues
.
This year's competition saw participants from 127 institutions across India, with 72 teams shortlisted from esteemed law schools, including NLSIU Bangalore, Symbiosis Law School, ILS Law College Pune, and National Law Institute University, Bhopal. The competition also saw participants from international institutes.
The moot problem required teams to analyse the legality of using artificial intelligence in policing and to assess the reliability of digital forensic tools such as facial recognition and social media analysis in evidentiary reports.
The final round was adjudicated by a panel of esteemed judges from the Delhi High Court. The prize distribution ceremony took place at the India Habitat Centre in Delhi.
In recognition of outstanding performance, the winning team from SASTRA (Deemed to be University), Thanjavur, received a cash prize of Rs 25,000. The first runner-up team from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University secured a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and books. Special awards were also presented for the Best Memorial and Best Speaker categories.
