AI powered portal for RTE admissions in city schools

Ranchi: The Ranchi district administration has launched an AI-powered website (www.rteranchi.in) to streamline the admission process for underprivileged students in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. The platform aims to ensure transparency and prevent manipulation in the application process.
Badal Raj, the district superintendent of education (DSE), told TOI, "The online portal will automatically verify information accuracy, prevent false entries and ensure that schools don't reject valid applications without justification. This initiative addresses the persistent issue of vacant RTE quota seats in private schools, where 60-70% of reserved seats remain vacant on average every year."
Under RTE, private schools must reserve 25% of seats for below poverty line (BPL) families. However, of the 1,200 seats available across 101 private schools in Ranchi, only 715 students were enrolled in the current session.
"This new system aims to improve RTE enrolment rates and ensure deserving children receive quality education without bureaucratic obstacles," Raj said.
The new website, will go live on March 3 and has several features such such as automated information verification, cross-verification of addresses, digital tracking of applications and streamlined admission procedures.
