Mohamed Salah Leads charge in Premier League Player of the Season nomination

Mohamed Salah has been recognized as one of the top contenders for the Premier League’s Player of the Season award, joining two of his Liverpool teammates on the prestigious shortlist. Salah’s exceptional performance has played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s successful title bid under manager Arne Slot.
The Egyptian forward has already broken the record for a 38-game campaign, and with just two matches remaining, he needs only one goal involvement to match the all-time single-season record of 47 combined goals and assists, shared by Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer.
Leading the league in both goals and assists, Salah has scored 28 goals and provided 18 assists this season. His remarkable form has put him among the few players in Premier League history to top the charts in both categories in the same campaign.
Only four players, including Salah himself in 2021-22, have achieved this feat in the competition’s history, highlighting his offensive dominance and consistency throughout the season.
Salah’s Liverpool teammates Ryan Gravenberch and Virgil van Dijk are also among the eight nominees for the award, as Liverpool secured the title with four games to spare, the earliest finish in Premier League history alongside other historic clubs like Manchester City and Manchester United. The award’s shortlist reflects Liverpool’s dominant season and Salah’s outstanding contributions, which have cemented his status as one of the league’s elite players.

While Liverpool celebrates its success, other clubs have their own standout performers in the running. Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White are also nominated, with Wood reaching 20 goals, a rare achievement for Forest in the Premier League.
Gibbs-White has contributed six goals and eight assists, helping Forest to a seventh-place finish and European qualification. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Declan Rice and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak are also among the top contenders, showcasing a competitive field full of attacking talent.
The nominations extend beyond the main award, with eight young players vying for the Young Player of the Season honor. Among them, Gravenberch is the sole nominee for both awards, while Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen is also in contention.
Reports suggest that Huijsen is on the verge of a £50million move to Real Madrid. Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is notably the first player nominated for Young Player of the Year while playing for a relegated team, and he is attracting interest from top clubs with a £30million release clause.
