Migaa: 13 People Killed as Truck Rams into PSV Matatu Near Salgaa

Citizen TV reported that the horrible accident occurred at 2am on Friday, March 14, at the Migaa area near Salgaa.
Preliminary reports indicate the lorry ferrying coffee rammed into a 14-seater PS matatu from Kitale headed to Nairobi.
It is reported that the trailer, which was heading towards Eldoret, developed a brake failure and lost control before crashing the matatu.
The area chief stated that all 12 occupants of the PSV matatu and the driver of the trailer died in the horrible accident.
Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga confirmed the tragic incident, saying the victims included nine males, four females and a child.
Muchiri reminded motorists that the area is a known black spot, hence, there is a need to exercise caution on the drivers using the route.
“That area is a known black spot, and we urge motorists to be cautious when approaching there,” Muchiri said.

Meanwhile, Kenya Red Cross issued a statement indicating they have set up tracing and psychosocial support desk at the Molo-Sub County Hospital Funeral Home to assist the families who lost their loved ones in the accident.
"Following the tragic road traffic incident at Migaa around 2 AM, our teams assisted in recovery efforts and provided Psychological First Aid. We have set up a tracing desk and a psychosocial support (PSS) desk at Molo Sub-County Hospital Funeral Home to help families cope with the loss and trauma. Our thoughts are with all those affected," Kenya Red Cross said.
In August 24, another horrible accident involving a PSV bus and multiple vehicle occured near the same same, in Molo Constituency.
The 4am, Tuesday, August 20, 2024 accident resulted in 13 fatalities and left over 50 individuals injured.
A Coast bus traveling from Kakamega to Mombasa crashed with an undetermined number of passengers.
The Kenya Red Cross deployed teams to assist, and the injured were transported to Coptic and Molo Hospitals.
A survivor reported the bus carried 71 passengers and experienced mechanical problems during the journey.
Other survivors blamed the police after disclosing that traffic police officers were informed about that poor status of the bus but they ignored.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration sanctioned the expansion of the busy Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
On Tuesday, March 11, teh Cabinet approved the multi-billion shilling investiment to reduce traffic jam and minimise accidents.
The Cabinet dispatch stated that the Nairobi-Rironi-Mau Summit expansion covers the entire 170-kilometre stretch.
